How Bison helps your healthcare service in Wales
What can you expect when the HIW inspectors call?
The inspections of your premises can be announced or unannounced – the aim is to check that you are providing healthcare services in a way that maximises the health and wellbeing of people.
The HIW inspector looks at how your services:
- Comply with regulations
- Meet healthcare standards
- Meet other legislation, professional standards and guidance as applicable.

What happens after the inspection?
After inspecting your premises, the HIW inspectors write a report and publish it on the HIW website. Their findings cover everything from the quality of patient experience, delivery of safe and effective healthcare, to the quality of the management and leadership in your organisation.
They can require you to make improvements where they are necessary, and they decide if they need to take further action to follow-up on issues they have identified.
