Caring for children? Here’s how to boost their mental health – with help from Inside Out 2

Many of our lovely Bison Assist clients are involved in looking after young people in children’s homes and schools, and we’re well aware that supporting good mental health is always very high on their list of priorities.

This week – from 3-9 February – is Children’s Mental Health Week, organised by the charity Place2Be, and this year it’s focusing on the theme Know Yourself, Grow Yourself.

The charity has teamed up with The Walt Disney Company and the characters from the Inside Out 2 movie – you can grab FREE resources for schools and families here.

The idea of the week is to encourage children, young people and adults to embrace self-awareness and explore what it means to them. The campaign believes this will help everyone to build resilience, grow and develop, and as a company we give that a big Bison thumbs up!

Keeping them safe

As all of our Bison clients know, providing an environment where good mental health can thrive is fundamental, whether you are running a school, a children’s home or any sort of workplace or medical centre.

An essential part of this is making sure you protect your staff, residents and visitors at all times – that way, everyone can feel confident that they are living and working in a place where they are safe.

As one leading nursery said: “Psychologically safe environments help children develop a more consistent, robust and consistent sense of self. That way, they learn their thoughts and emotions are valid and consistent, which is vital for self-esteem and self-worth.”

Making sure your organisation complies with regulations and updates risk assessments regularly not only helps you achieves this kind of robust, safe environment, but protects you legally, too.

How do we help children’s homes create a safe environment?

If you run a children’s home (or a care home), our Bison risk assessment experts help you: comply with Care Quality Commission (CQC) guidelines

  • meet care sector HSE standards
  • check on disabled access
  • maintain fire safety
  • keep Legionella infection at bay
  • ensure your relevant staff have access to proper training.

Our Bison risk assessment experts provide unobtrusive checks when they visit your premises and also provide valuable advice, taking away all the strain of compliance. Not to mention we keep a close Bison eye on changing legislation so you don’t need to worry about it.

Good luck with any initiatives you choose to run for Children’s Mental Health Week – it’s a great cause!
