It’s World Toilet Day – and it’s serious…

Unbelievably, 3.5 billion people in the world live without safely managed sanitation. This special day is a United Nations project to highlight the problem – when sanitation services are destroyed, damaged or disrupted, untreated human waste spreads in the environment, unleashing deadly diseases such as cholera.

In the UK, we tend to take accessibility to toilets for granted. But by creating a barrier between us and our waste, sanitation services are essential for public and environmental health.

Providing healthy toilets at your premises

Whatever kind of workplace or premises you operate, providing good, clean sanitation facilities is an important part of keeping your staff and customers safe and well.

Our Bison Assist experts visit business premises all over the country to carry out essential risk assessments covering Legionella checks, access, health and safety, and Care Quality Commission requirements.

Bison CEO Chris Hickman says: “Business owners have a legal requirement to protect the health of their staff and the people who use their premises, and our experts offer all kinds of advice and tips on areas you need to consider.

“Sanitation is a huge part of maintaining wellbeing and providing a great service. At Bison, we love the way World Toilet Day highlights the fact that everyone can help make change happen.

“This is the kind of thing we believe about maintaining health and safety in the workplace, too – everyone can be alert, and play an important part.”

What does World Toilet Day aim to do?

The 2024 campaign is calling on governments to make sure sanitation and water services are resilient, effective, accessible to everyone and shielded from harm.

“More investment and better governance of sanitation are critical for a fairer, more peaceful world,” the United Nations says.
